Exceptional Growth of Microalgae in Kiel inland lake

March 2017 - Last weekend brought pleasant weather with bright sunshine. Winter almost vanished allowing new algae to grow again. The water in Kiel inland lake appeared strongly green – an unexpected phenomenon for this season. Bbe took the  a sample and analysed the water with the AlgaeLabAnalyser. A value of more than 400 µg/L of Chlorophyll exceeded normal appearance. All clear: the algae belong to the greens. No blue-green algae were in this early bloom – therefore a formation of biotoxins could be excluded.
