Topic

The increase of Algae in lakes and drinking water reservoirs get a major problem during the last decades. Strong nutrification, less rain and warmer autumns and summers result earlier Algae blooms and especially a strong worldwide increase of potential toxic cyanobacteria blooms. This has strong impacts to the drinking water productions. Beside the blocking of the filter system, the toxins which get released out of the cyanobacteria raising the efforts for the drinking water treatment plants. To counteract this problem, an efficient monitoring of the algae composition is necessary.

In this webinar this problem with special aspects to cyanobacteria will be examined and discussed.

Agenda

Example of drinking water reservoirs with their problems to manage the increase off the Algae during the last years (Solingen, Toledo, Clearlake (California)

Experience of the participants in their water body

Problems of drinking water treatment

Fast in vivo and in situ detecting of the bloom

Early warning systems for changes in the algae composition

Depth distribution of toxic algae

Online monitoring in water treatment plants

Experience of the participants in their water body
